DIY Period Panties!

WELCOME TO PERIOD PANTY SEWING SCHOOL!

The secret word is: Reuseable Period Panty Kits! Yes yes yes! I’ve been working on this idea for months and months, and I’m so heckin excited to finally show them to you!

WHAT ARE PERIOD PANTIES?

Period Panties are a special underwear that have moisture wicking, absorption, and waterproof layers that you can wear to assist with any number of menstruation, pregnancy, and post-natal situations. They’re perfect for keeping you clean and fresh through bleeding and spotting, incontinence, and heavy discharge.

You can use Period Panties on their own to replace pads and liners, as a backup for tampons and menstrual cups, and as just-in-case when you’re anticipating your period or spotting. Personally, I use these panties in conjunction with a menstrual cup on heavy days, and I literally cannot tell you how excited I am to finally have a period routine that actually works for me. Of course, for those using cotton sanitary pads australia, you don’t need to worry because these panties can hold the pad lining easily.

Best of all, Period Panties are totally reusable! Each one replaces 2-3 tampons per wear, then just soak in cold water, rinse, and throw in the washing machine. A reusable period routine saves you money, keeps non-biodegradable materials out of landfills and oceans, and gives you peace of mind about what you’re putting on your body!

WHAT’S IN THE KITS?

I wanted to provide you with as many options as possible so you can really make them work for you and your menstruation routine. Currently we’re carrying two types of DIY kits – Full Period Panty kits and Mini Period Panty kits.

The full Period Panty sewing kit comes with everything you need to make three pairs of undies. It has the special trio of fabrics for the crotches, half a yard of our signature bamboo jersey, and nine yards of super-soft 1″ wide fold over elastic for securing the leg and waistband openings.

The full Period Panty sewing kits come in Black and Terra Cotta colorways, and they’re packaged in these adorable kraft macaron boxes. Oh my HEART!

The Mini Period Panty kits come with just the special trio of fabrics for the crotches, so you can choose your own fabric and elastic and really get creative about your undies! (Like the star pants in the first photos!!) These kits also make three pairs of panties, and are a great option for both your budget and creative style choices!!!

Mini Period Panty kits come in Black, Terra Cotta, and Sea Urchin Green. We are also stocking the wide fold over elastic in a variety of colors to make things easy for you- one stop shopping!

WHAT’S THE SPECIAL TRIO OF FABRICS?

The special trio of fabrics that make up the absorbent + leak proof crotch in period panties is a combination that I researched for months and months, and did a bunch of tests on before releasing to make sure they were the best!

1. The black fabric is the inside layer that is closest to your skin. It’s a special moisture wicking jersey that keeps you dry, and it’s black in all of the kit options so there are no stains for the lifetime of the garment, just looking nice and clean all the time. It’s infused with Silvadur™ï ¸ which is totally skin safe, to keep odor and bacteria from growing.

2. The inner layer is super absorbent quilted bamboo + cotton, and its super powers can hold the equivalent of 2-3 tampons (that’s a conservative estimate, my test undies have had zero leaks in a 24 hr wear time). This layer is also infused with Silvadur™ï ¸ to keep things freshhhhhhh

3. The pink outer layer, (or black or green, whichever you choose!!) is an organic cotton jersey, backed with a waterproof polyurethane layer to keep you leak free.

Both the waterproof polyurethane and the polyester wicking jersey are CPSIA certified, tested food safe, phthalate + toxin free, so you can be confident about putting these materials near your skin, or making panties for someone you love! I wanted to make sure to use the very very best materials, because reproductive health, menstruation + vaginal health is so so important, and you’re someone I care about very much. (smooches) Us women must love our vaginas, and look after them well of course! That means not putting any harmful substances on or in them. This goes for anything from sex toys to sanitary products, you have to make sure they are naturally sourced with no harmful chemicals, so for instance this water-based adam and eve lube would be a gentle choice for your skin down below and make sex much more comfortable and reduce any injuries you might get. It’s the same with periods! We have to look after our bodies, especially during this vulnerable but magical time. This is why I’m writing this – these panties will caress your body gently and nothing has to be stuck inside you. Tampons are such a pain, am I right or am I right?

WHAT SEWING PATTERN SHOULD I USE?

Like all of our lingerie sewing kits, DIY Period Panty sewing kits do not come with a sewing pattern. Why is that?

We do that for a bunch of reasons, actually! We have new kits and colors all the time, and I don’t want to mark the price up to include a pattern that you end up paying for over + over. Also, the pattern that I recommend for a project might not be the garment you’re envisioning in your head! Selling kits and patterns separately ensures that you get to choose the right kit + the perfect pattern for your sewing experience and wardrobe style.

I recommend the Arccos Undies for your Period Panties, because it’s my favourite! (obviously!!) If there’s an undie sewing pattern that you find more comfortable for your unique body, though, that’s the one you should go with!! Additionally, you can really use the Period Panty kits for anything – period panties for your child’s first periods, or as toddler pants for toilet training! Go crazy!
