To celebrate my new printed patterns, the Euler Bralette and Arccos Undies, Britex Fabrics sent me some lovely fabric to play with! Check out their incredible knit section – I couldn’t resist trying out this beautiful tee shirt weight peach cotton knit!
My favourite part of my patterns is how they’re so incredibly easy to make! You might not think lingerie is easy to sew, but trust me. It is!! Even better, the bralette is fully lined, and the panty has a lined gusset (that’s the black piece that connects the front and back pieces), and neither of them will have visible seam allowances from the inside – a completely professional, long lasting finish!
How cute is this?? Peachy blush pink is my literal favourite color. And how can you go wrong with pom pom edging!? You cannot.
There is a bit of a trick to do the lined crotch in the undies, so I thought I’d walk you through the steps so you’ll have no fear when you get there yourself. Ready, Go!
After you’ve sewn your side seams (I included this cute little trim right in the seam), it’s time to put the crotch in! Seriously, I’m not kidding – these are so easy, there’s only four seams! And three of them are only like two inches long.
Lay out your three pieces as the picture shows. You’ll have your panty, right side out, and two crotch pieces. The first piece is going to be Face Up, and the second crotch is Face Down. This is important. The first piece is going to be the lining, inside the panty.
Fold the front of the panty up so that the front crotch edge is peeking over the waistband.
Flip your panty over so that you’re looking at the back. You can still see that front edge peaking over the waistband.
Fold the waistband down so you can see both the front and back crotch edges.
Slide the first crotch piece, the one that’s Face Up, under the panty. Match the front and back edges with the front and back crotch edges of the panty.
Pin them together! When you’re pinning knit pieces, a good trick is to start at the corners, pin in the middle, then ease the rest together. This helps with even dispersion of the stretch.
Take your second crotch piece, the one Face Down, and place it over the top of the panty, matching up the seams and pin. You can use the same pins you used for the first pinning!
At this point, it should look like this on both sides.
Sew! You can use a serger or a three step zig zag stitch on a home sewing machine.
Turn the panty out through one of the open sides of the crotch.
Ta Daahhhh!!! It’s really underwear!! Now, all you have to do is throw on some elastic and you are ready to roll!! See? Easy as pie.
There you have it! Your undies are ready to go! Now go get your patterns and get ready for an undie sewing bonanza!! Don’t forget to check out the tutorial for adding in the little pom poms to the Arccos side seams!
Happy Sewing, and thank you Britex for the lovely fabric!
