Anxious Makers Week 50: Knit a Thing

August 21, 2016 by Sophie

It’s almost Fall, which is a miracle because I am this close to melting directly onto the floor. What’s going on here?? I moved to Maine to get away from Summer! Lola needs to sleep under the comforter, and I keep pulling her out because she is overheating under there. We are not on board with this.

So for the first project assignment of the Anxious Maker’s Club, Haley and I decided to reacquaint ourselves with our knitting needles. It went very well, and I, having never knit a hat or anything other than half finished childhood scarves, followed my usual protocol of some light googling, then made up my own pattern for an activity I have very little experience in.

I’m pretty blessed with the ability to make shit up as I go, and my hat turned out really great! (Until it accidentally went through the wash and is now a baby hat, but just more practice for me I guess!)

I then went on to knit hats for everybody I know for Christmas presents! I meant to get a picture of all of them all lined up, but in my usual way of things, I did not. Oh well. They were pretty! I also knit some scarves for Lola the animal, which she enjoys immensely.

I found out during all my holiday traveling that knitting is a wonderful distraction for traveling and long flights! So, when I went to Denver last month, I decided to upgrade the level of difficulty from hats+scarves to my first sweater! Additionally, I decided to try to read an actual pattern for the first time ever. So far, it’s not going well.

I figured it would be 100% easier (+ less project bulk during travel) to knit a sweater for Lola instead of myself. Which was great, but I literally can NOT figure out this pattern re: dog sleeves and definitely need some help. Good thing I’m too busy to figure it out, so it’s just sitting in my knitting bag all lonesome. Oh well. Lola’s small.. I’ll have it figured out by the time it’s cold!

Since we’ve almost gotten a solid year of practice on our knitting, Haley and I have decided it’s time to move on to a new assignment:
