I did it. I did actually complete the goal of three items for the Summer of Basics making challenge!! (and in the correct time frame, but I’ve been so busy wearing my socks that it took me a while to get pictures of them!) Originally the project lineup was supposed to be a summer dress, a shirt, and a pair of hand knit socks, but turns out, I love knitting socks and made two pairs!!
It shouldn’t have surprised me, because I am really very excellent at tiny fussy projects, and I love making sure that all the details are perfect! Maybe my favourite thing about sock knitting is that I love having a knitting project, but it takes me a bit of effort to come up with an idea of what I should knit next. But with socks, once you’ve made one, you still have another to do and you get to keep working on the same project!
So I started with this pink and grey pair, which you may remember.
It took me quite a bit of effort to get that first sock finished – I did every single section three times. So really, that pair of socks has been knit twice!
The second pair is made of an alpaca blend from Fancy Tiger Crafts, unfortunately I bought it a year and a half ago, so I don’t remember who made it!
The heels and toes are some deep blue grey yarn I had laying around after knitting a scarf for Lola. I have no idea what it’s made of, but it matches the stripey alpaca super well!!
Both pairs are made with the Priscilla’s Dream Socks pattern, which I really love. The pink pair has a seam across the toes, and by the stripey pair I was feeling comfortable enough with the pattern to learn the kitchener stitch to do in place of the seam, which I am now fully in love with. IN LOVE.
Yay for my first two pairs of hand knit socks!!! They’re perfect for pulling on over my jeans when I walk Lola in the morning, just like everyone does, yes? Socks over pants 100% of the time.
Happy Sewing!
